The Biggest Losers of Concours d'LeMons Monterey 2010!

August 17, 2010 – The Concours d’LeMons Monterey names the 1958 Volkswagen “Short Bus” from Frank and Donna Atkinson of Atascadero, CA as the 2010 Worst of Show winner. The “Short Bus” started life as a 21-window van, and was shortened by Frank to its current, diminutive configuration, which is exactly the length of Frank’s outstretched arms, in the mid-1960s. During the presentation of the Worst of Show trophy, Frank suggested to the assembled crowd of hundreds that the inspiration to make the Short Bus came to him while under the influence of the California coast’s best-selling product, which is now only used for medicinal purposes. Prior to receiving the much-coveted Worst of Show award, Frank and Donna provided entertainment to the huddled masses throughout the day by performing wheelies and donuts throughout the show grounds.

Held August 14th at the picturesque Toro Park in Monterey, the 2010 Concours d’LeMons Monterey’s featured marques were SUVs and Mini-vans. Karl Brutz from Santa Barbara, CA took home the hotly-contested SUV award with his pristine 2001 Pontiac Aztek. Karl bought the Aztek new in 2000, and seemingly checked every option on the order sheet when he did. Karl proudly displayed the camper package add-on throughout the day, mainly because Karl said that the assembly is so difficult and cumbersome to put-up or take-down, that it was just easier to leave it up for as long as he could until he had to drive home.

Over 80 vehicles of questionable design assembled for this year's event, and presented a great challenge for the line-up of celebrity judges tasked with selecting the worst of the worst. Here is a mostly-complete listing of the biggest losers:

Brought to you by the same miscreants behind the 24 Hours of LeMons and Billetproof, Jay Lamm and Alan Galbraith, Concours d'LeMons celebrates the Oddball, Mundane and truly Awful of the automotive world. Hagerty Insurance, Grassroots Motorsports and Classic Motorsports Magazines sponsored the whole debacle, although we’re still not sure that they’ve figured-out what the show is really about.
